In recent years, spectacular archaeological discoveries have been made in De Maashorst. For example, archaeologists found princely graves from the early Iron Age, a cemetery from the late prehistoric period, the largest bronze depot in the Netherlands from the Roman period and a number of forgotten villages from the Middle Ages.

The princely grave of Oss is the largest and richest princely grave in the Netherlands. When a bronze urn and a golden sword were found, it soon became clear that someone of great importance found his final resting place here: the ‘Prince of Oss’.

People were regularly buried in this burial ground during the Bronze Age and early Iron Age. In 2011, all burial mounds and rows of posts were reconstructed in their original location. The result: a mighty archaeological monument that takes you back in time.

People lived in De Maashorst centuries ago. The oldest and still visible remains are the burial mounds: monuments for the deceased who were buried centrally under the hill. On the Slabroekse Heide, the counter of found burial mounds is now at a hundred.
