Ancient shifting dunes
The Slabroekse Bergen are located between two old farm villages: Hengstheuvel and Slabroek.
The first village mentioned had been inhabited since the year 700. The farmers let their sheep graze on the heath. In addition, sods were cut as ground cover for the cattle. After years of over-sodging, bare spots appeared in the heath. The wind got hold of the sand and the sand started to blow. The result?
Slabroekse Heide
